Double Homicide Victims ID'd, PA State Police Say

Two people who were killed, in what Pennsylvania State Police believe is a double homicide, have been identified on Thursday, June 15, 2023.

Gloria B. Hardy, 78, and John S. Burdge, 90, both residents of 118390 Route 35 South in Tuscarora Township (Juniata County), were found dead in their home around 11 p.m. on Sunday, June 11, 2023, the police said. 

The killings are thought to have happened between 11 p.m. on Saturday, June 10, and ten minutes prior to the call to the police, according to the release. 

The nature of the two victims' deaths is believed to be "intentional" and they are being investigated as homicides, state police said. 

Details about the exact causes of their deaths have not been released. 

The police noted in the updated release, that "there is no immediate threat to the public at this time."

An obituary for Gloria has been released. She was a retiree after 33 years at Empire Kosher Poultry, a member of the Millerstown Moose Lodge #925, and the Crawford-Brubaker VFW Post 5863 of Mifflintown, as detailed in her obituary.

"Gloria loved to go out to eat with friends Sis Imes and Sonja Arentz and enjoyed square dancing, listening to Conrad Fisher and attending Raggamuffin Hall, attending the McCoysville Presbyterian Church, and spending time with her family, especially her precious great-grandson, Waylon," as stated in her obituary.

She is survived by her daughter Lori J. Long (Stephen) of Mifflin; two grandchildren, Dusty A. Amtower (Chelsy) of Mifflin, and Miranda Fowler (Hunter Brown) of Mifflintown; great-grandson, Waylon Amtower; brother, Robert Henry (Dolores) of Honey Grove; and three sisters, Jean Henry of Mifflin, Rose Walker (Dan) of McVeytown, and Mary “Mert” Parson (Carl) of Honey Grove, according to her obituary.

A visitation will be held at the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge Street, Mifflintown from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 16, 2023, and from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12 p.m. on Saturday. Rev. Judy Rowles will be officiating the funeral. Interment will follow in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Nook, according to her obituary.
